Mexicube History
Not to be confused as a species of Psilocybe mexicana, the Mexicube magic mushrooms strain belongs to the Psilocybe cubensis family. It’s clear in the name: Mexi (Mexico) and cubes (Psilocybe cubensis).
For 2,000 years, magic mushrooms have been used spiritually and therapeutically in Mexico and Central America. The use of mushrooms was prevalent among cultures such as the Aztecs, who resided in regions surrounding Oaxaca, Mexico–where the original Mexicube spore sample was thought to have been collected.
However, it’s said that an amateur mycologist named Mr. G is the creator behind isolating the Mexicube mushroom strain we know and love today. As one of the most ancient magic mushroom strains, growers and psychonauts of all levels continue to pay homage to this legendary strain.
Mexicube Mushroom Appearance
With their distinctive cubensis shape, Mexicube mushrooms are typically large caps with a yellow to deep orange colour. Although Mexicube may not have the golden colour of a typical Psilocybe cubensis, they’re just as appealing as any other cube.
When dried, you may notice light to dark blue spots on your mushrooms. These spots are called “bruising” and it’s a telltale sign of psilocybin and psilocin in a mushroom. Bruising is common in magic mushrooms–oxidation from harvesting, transporting, or handling can cause them to change colour.
Magic Mushroom Benefits
Magic mushrooms are commonly associated with tripping and hallucinations, but did you know they have potential therapeutic benefits? Perhaps even life-changing – if they’re used properly. The psilocybin in magic mushrooms is thought to affect the brain in areas that control mood, perception, and cognition.
People dealing with mental and psychological disorders may find themselves benefiting from magic mushrooms as an alternative treatment. While more research is needed, past studies suggest shrooms can help with stress, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and addiction.
Psychedelic research is still in its early stages, but we’re hopeful more evidence will emerge that can help support and meet the growing need for effective treatments.
Mexicube Mushroom Effects
Magic mushrooms can take effect in as little as 30 minutes, with the average duration lasting between 3 and 6 hours. Some trips may last even longer. You may start yawning or feeling nauseous; these are initial signs that the shrooms are taking effect. Time may slow down as your 5 senses start to take in the world in a new way. As your mind clears, you may find yourself in a deeply introspective mood as you journey through your mind and spirit.
The Mexicube strain is known for open- and closed-eye visual hallucinations, trippy audio distortions, and a euphoric body buzz. What that can look like is fractals, geometric shapes, saturated colours, or seeing things that aren’t there. Just remember, mushroom effects will vary from person to person.
Recommendations
Taking Mexicube mushrooms is like going on a new adventure every time. Whether you’re new to magic mushrooms or an avid shroomer, getting your set (mind) and setting (environment) right can shape your psychedelic experience. This is the time to do a mental check and set positive intentions. Equally as important is tripping in a safe place with people you feel comfortable with. And it’s a good idea to have a sober trip sitter for your safety and support in case you start feeling overwhelmed.
Since it’s best to take shrooms on an empty stomach (or after a light snack), make sure you have food, snacks, and drinks ready when you start feeling peckish. Mushroom trips can last for several hours, so plan your day and activities accordingly because driving will be off-limits.
Mushroom Dosage
Your shroom trip will depend on the dose you take. Be mindful of your tolerance, experience, size, weight, and overall health to minimize the risk of a bad trip—you know yourself best. If you’ve never dosed before, here’s a general mushroom dosage chart:
- Microdose: 0.05 – 0.25g
- Mini-dose: 0.25 – 0.75g
- Museum dose: 0.5 – 1.5g
- Moderate dose: 2.0 – 3.5g
- Megadose: 3.5 – 5.0g
- Heroic dose: 5.0g +
